RDI (DRB Mapping Indication)
- RDI stands for Reflective QoS flow to DRB mapping Indication. It’s an essential concept in telecommunications, particularly within the context of 5G networks.
- Dedicated Radio Bearer (DRB): In 5G networks, a DRB is a logical channel that carries user data between the User Equipment (UE) and the base station (gNB). Each DRB is associated with specific Quality of Service (QoS) parameters.
- QoS Flow: A QoS flow represents a specific data stream with defined QoS requirements (e.g., latency, throughput, reliability). It corresponds to a particular application or service running on the UE.
- Mapping Rule: The RDI defines a mapping rule that determines which DRB should carry packets from a specific QoS flow. In other words, it indicates how QoS flows are mapped to DRBs.
- Reflective Mapping: The term “reflective” implies that the UE monitors this mapping rule in the downlink (DL) direction and applies it in the uplink (UL) direction. Essentially, the UE ensures consistency between DL and UL mappings.
