The Snapdragon x55 5G is the world’s first commercial 5G modem for smartphones, offering a combination of industry-leading performance and power efficiency. With integrated next generation Qualcomm® Aqstic™ audio codec, accelerated LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity, this silicon platform enables new experiences across the mobile computing spectrum including improved voice quality, streaming rich media content and hyper-realistic AR/VR gaming – all while supporting the existing Snapdragon ecosystem with easy upgrades to future modem generations. Built on an all-new, custom 5G modem, Snapdragon x55 5G is the world’s first commercial 5G chipset. With industry-leading capabilities, it is engineered to deliver a powerful and immersive experience across mobile, automotive, and cloud applications. The Snapdragon x55 is the world’s first commercial 5G modem, designed to support both mobile and PC platforms. It is the culmination of over two years of research, development and engineering with a focus on backward compatibility, integrated infrastructure, and interoperability across standards. The Snapdragon X55 5G modem is designed and optimized for use in consumer mobile devices, with integrated 5G modem and RF front-end (RFFE) capabilities. The Snapdragon X55 5G is designed to reduce network latency, enabling next-level immersive media experiences, seamless handoff between multiple devices and adopting a mesh network topology. For a connected world where every device is always on, Snapdragon X55 5G allows for the creation of new applications, services and experiences that benefit from 5G connectivity. Snapdragon X55 is a mobile, multi-mode 5G modem designed to support the full range of 5G NR bands worldwide, including LTE and 2G/3G. Built on 7nm process technology with 3rd generation Cat 21 LTE and 2Gbps Category M1 features. The Snapdragon X55 5G is the industry’s first commercial 5G modem, an important milestone in bringing ultra-fast connectivity to mobile devices. The X55 supports Sub-6 GHz and mmWave spectrum bands with higher performance, greater capacity and lower latency than previous generations of LTE modems. The Snapdragon X55 5G modem and a key component of the Qualcomm 5G standardized platform, supports the next-generation mobile networks and services. With capabilities that enable gigabit per second speeds and end-to-end latency below 10 milliseconds, the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem is designed to meet the demands of consumers using new advanced features such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), high-quality streaming, and smart cloud services. The Snapdragon X55 5G modem offers a host of new features that makes it ideal for the development of new 5G use cases. The first use case is the evolution of high-speed 5G wireless connections to wirelessly connect multiple internet-of-things (IoT) devices in homes, offices, cities and industrial environments. The second use case is driving a new generation of 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) technologies that can ultimately replace wired broadband connections such as cable modems or DSL in the home, office and enterprise. The Snapdragon X55 5G modem and RF front end is designed to deliver best-in-class connectivity, supporting multi-gigabit speeds across LTE and 5G networks. The suite of industrial design features enables seamless software integration. And the integrated RF front end supports parallel connectivity – up to eight 4×2 MIMO antenna ports or up to eight 2×2 MIMO antenna ports in addition to one single SIM channel. With Snapdragon x55 5G, devices will have the capability to run real-time virtual assistants like Siri, Alexa and Cortana. The technology improves on the previous model, Snapdragon X50 5G, by adding support for more advanced features like high-definition video streaming and 4K gaming. This technology also improves image quality in both still or live videos. We are excited that Qualcomm has succeeded in developing this feature-packed next generation modem (NGM) chipset.
