MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching)

Multi-Protocol Label Switching directs information starting with one node then onto the next dependent on short way labels instead of long network addresses, thus speeding traffic flows. MPLS can typify packets of different network protocols. MPLS is at present being used in IP-only networks and is normalized by the IETF in RFC 3031. MPLS is mainly used to forward IP protocol data units (PDUs) and Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) Ethernet traffic. Significant utilization of MPLS is broadcast communications traffic designing and MPLS VPN.
